Our Long Medical Detour is Over!
“On the road again! I just can’t wait to be on the road again!”
You never know what’s just over the horizon. Sometimes, the best of plans have to be scrapped because of something new. In June 2024, we took an offramp from our planned travels to do something far more important - help Pat’s sister Cindy who lives in Albuquerque. Our travel plans - and Driving Mrs Sandi blog - would have to be mothballed.
In May 2024, after a couple of happenstance doctor’s appointments, Cindy’s medical team discovered a brain tumor in a temporal lobe of her brain. As happens when such things are discovered, one test begets other tests. Through a series of tests, Cindy was ultimately diagnosed with two forms of aggressive Stage IV cancer with widespread metastasis. Her treatments were to consist of two intensive surgeries and a strong protocol of chemotherapy. The diagnosis was bleak. Under the circumstances, we did what was needed which was to step off the road and stay with Cindy and help her fight and win her battle. With our transition to full time RVing, we were blessed to have the flexibility and freedom to be able to be there to help.
While Cindy’s diagnosis was difficult, cancer messed with the wrong bitch this time!
Cindy’s mantra was “I’m not having it!” Through difficult days of chemo and recovery as well as two major surgeries, she stayed strong and kept her attitude positive continually repeating “I’m not having it!” And now, after 10 months, for all practical purposes Cindy no longer has it!! There are couple of small areas that remain but they are in retreat. We will continue to be available to Cindy if she needs help in the future, but at this point, we’re all feeling like it’s time for us to hit the road again!
